The Survey Strikes Back! Saturday 28 February, 2015. Ferial Day

The Survey Strikes Back -  Survey No. 2

_______________________________

Background and Recapping

Having completed the First Survey on Climate Change Questions earlier this week, and being initially disappointed at the results, I decided to do a follow-up one with a slightly different approach, using the original question posed by the GWRC, ( by rephrasing their question without altering the intent), but this time examining one important aspect of the GWRC question, which, as one person taking part in the survey pointed out... "the question was a 'loaded' one" ...

With a newly phrased question on the same topic of "Climate Change," I completed the survey on Friday 27 February, 2015 outside the New World Supermarket, Stokes valley, Lower Hutt, on that same afternoon, and so without any further ado .... here are the results of the 2nd follow-up Survey on a question of "Climate Change."

The Results

As in the first survey, I limited the number of the sample to 64, to keep it in line with the first survey, the response to the new question, "DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE IMPACTS ARE OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THIS REGION?" are outlined as follows:

Number of Sample  ...............   64

YES .........................................  26

NO ...........................................  13

NOT SURE .............................  25

As a Percentage of the total sample :

YES ..................  40.62%

NO ..................... 20.31%

NOT SURE ...... 39.06%

The Pie-Chart

This second Pie-Chart, in contrast to the earlier one, shows a dramatic reversal  from that of the first survey, ( as shown below) even given that the new question was deliberately phrased to ascertain exactly, what the understanding of residents of this area was in relation to one very important point in the GWRC's question on "Climate Change," which they were careful to misrepresent.

Comparing the Two Surveys ( note  what happens when you ask a slightly different question the GWRC were not prepared to risk asking!)

"Do you know what the Impacts are of Climate Change in this region?"

"Should we protect the Wellington Region from Climate Change?"

The time has come for all good men ( and the ladies 8-) ) to come to the aid of the party ...

Conclusion:

I think it's a pretty interesting result carried out under the same conditions in both surveys ( apart from a little wind factor which had my highly organized link handouts for the survey results, fluttering about on the ground outside the supermarket! )

So, having got this far, I will try and post this (blogger willing), and invite any comments you may have, on the survey, any action you may think is necessary, etc., etc.,  as I think about my reply to the submission request by the GWRC April 10, 2015 .....  which will be based around my ongoing research, and posted on this blogsite by mid-March, 2015, at the latest, for people to read and acquaint themselves with the issues, and hopefully make their own submission to the GWRC by 10 April, 2015.

And, I once again thank all those who so patiently took the brief(?) time to participate in this survey, which I consider to be pretty important, maybe not the most ...but important enough to do something about!
